The UK’s Energy Industry Council (EIC) and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) will lead a group of business delegates from Oman to attend a business summit in Manchester.

The EIC-UKTI Business Summit running over two days on 28-29 May 2012 will focus on opportunities in the hydrocarbons sector in Oman as well as Iraq. The EIC is the leading trade association for UK companies supplying goods and services to the energy industries worldwide and UKTI is UK’s overseas trade promotion body based at the British Embassy in Muscat.

The aim of the Summit is to help forge links between the supply chains in both countries and to develop relationships in these two strong hydrocarbon markets. It intends to identify opportunities for Omani and UK companies to increasingly work together.

The Summit is supported by the Shell Group and Petroleum Development Oman PDO). PDO is the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate, accounting for more than 70% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply.

Jamie Bowden, HMA and the UKTI team held a reception on 21st May for the Omani delegation attending the EIC-UKTI conference in Manchester on 28th-29th May. Senior members of Shell, PDO and OPAL also attended.

It was agreed at the reception that the Embassy and OPAL would seek to follow up the UK conference with further co-operation in Oman.
