It is with great sadness that the British Embassy announces the sudden death of Irene Bedwin. Irene had worked at the Embassy since 2002 as a Trade Adviser in the Trade and Investment Section. She was held in great respect by the British companies that she helped and by her Omani contacts. She played a direct role in many commercial successes for the United Kingdom over the past decade.
Irene’s contribution went wider than her job, though. She was a mainstay of the Embassy team and unfailingly supportive of other staff and sections. She also played a major part in the life of the British community in Muscat. Most recently, she organised the Big Lunch in June at the Hyatt to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. 400 people attended.
Irene was always warm, helpful and cheerful. She is already greatly missed in the Embassy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Neil and her sons, Alan and Andrew.
